The Importance of Feedback

Feedback gives responsibility back to the learner, which is why it can be both empowering and devastating for those that receive it. Meaningful feedback leads to growth and empowers learners to take control of their own learning and grow.

Meaningful feedback is:

  • Timely: You should give feedback as soon as you can. Feedback should be given when the student is still mindful of the topic in question.

  • Specific: Students need to know what they did well and what they specifically need to improve. general feedback can confuse students and lead to worse results.

  • Understandable: Feedback is meaningless if a kid can not understand it.

  • Actionable: Feedback must provide learners with an opportunity to act on the information provided.
