The Next Steps

Building Your Lesson

It is important to avoid trying to over script a lesson because no lesson really goes completely according to plan. However, it is a good idea to set up a "toolbox" of strategies to assess and make adjustments throughout a lesson, as well as, after the lesson is completed.

Questions to consider:

1. What type of formative assessments best fit the lesson? Does the lesson lend itself to assessment activities or short spot checks?

2. How do you know you will get the information you want?

3. How will you know you are giving appropriate feedback?

4. Will you create time for student and teacher reflection on learning that takes place in the class?
